Virtual Assistant Jobs: How to Stand Out to a Virtual Assistant and Join Their Team.

So how would you go about finding your place on a virtual team or several teams? I suggest the following...

When I created 1nSourcing, my Business, Lifestyle and Mindset system for Virtual Assistants, one of the key components I recognised is that not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur or business owner, in the sense of... Not everyone wants to have the responsibility of marketing, sourcing and onboarding clients and having that kind of responsibility, yet at the same time, want all the independence, flexibility and versatility being a virtual assistant has to offer.

These are what I generally refer to as 'Supporters' - Virtual Assistants who work within VA teams and support the lead VA with their clients.

1nSourcing is also a role-based system, meaning it doesn't sell services as such, is sells carefully crafted roles (specific to the clientele) that anyone can fulfill on the 1nSourcing Team.

So how would you go about finding your place on a virtual team or several teams? I suggest the following:

    1) Educate yourself on expectations and requirements.

I've hired over 75 virtual assistant over the years within my business - of all varieties, managing a team of 25 when it was at its largest, and I have an exceptional understanding at this point as to what a lead virtual assistant is looking for in a team and for their clients. So the first thing I suggest you do is educate yourself well on everything that means.

Understanding your client is key to making you stand out as a potential team member, and in this case the client is a virtual assistant, who's growing their business.

I've put together an entire level of 1nSourcing dedicated to everything you need to know about hiring and being hired, because you don't just need to educate yourself about getting hired, but also how the lead virtual assistant is going about doing their hiring, so you can prepare yourself.

    2) Adjust your presentation and marketing.

Just because you aren't going down the entrepreneurial route doesn't mean you revert to the old CV / resume style approach. You still need to present yourself as the best option for your clients, but rather through using a language they will immediately resonate with, while being impressed by your approach too.

You could use a template such as our 1nSourcing website template in Podia to create an online presence, or any landing page for that matter, and you can even create a basic website in Canva these days. The most important point to note is that you precisely adjust your presentation and message to appeal to the discerning virtual assistant looking to hire. Do not present yourself as a generic virtual assistant, but more of a powerhouse of support, loyalty and reliability that would be an asset to any team.

You can adjust your message by using the information I've shared from the previous point inside 1nSourcing Level 6: Teams.

    3) It's not a job... Don't ask for a job...

One thing you may get some resistance to from Virtual Assistants is if you use terminology such as, "I'm looking for a job." or "Can I work for you?" because it shows too much of an employee mentality, of people wanting to clock in and clock out; people can get employees for that, if they want that.

We aren't looking for employees or to 'own' you (like some agency models, for example). We want you to have that independence mentality to a certain degree... Virtual assistants who are looking for team members need to know that the team member will work alongside them, 'as if' the business was their own. The lead VA must feel like you're an essential part of the mechanics of their business, as someone they know they can trust to meet and possibly exceed expectations, which requires a certain kind of work ethic. And don't forget, the better the virtual assistant company does - that you're being hired into, the better you will do over time, so adjust the language and how you communicate with potential clients who are virtual assistants, to reflect this level of support for them.

    4) Virtual Assistant Communities

So the good news is that finding groups of these clients to connect with (virtual assistants growing with teams) is pretty easy. We have our own network here at Virtual Miss Friday on Facebook and LinkedIn you can check out, and there are many others.

You need to establish awareness and visibility, so despite having collectively a network that spans well over 6 figures in members - and growing by hundreds every day, I can still see the people who stand out as different and are following the guidelines I've shared here - you can't miss them! So if there are places to promote within the groups (we do posts twice a week for business promotion) then do that, and the best way to attract attention is with informative, useful and thoughtful comments (that are of value to most everyone in the group). Establish relationships and reach out to individuals after doing your homework on them, look to see if they have an established company, and if so, have they indicated they have a team or is it obvious? A little investment of your time into caring, goes a long way.

Use the exact methods I teach on growing your clientbase (as any regular client) - but tailor this specifically (like we said in points 1 and 2) to the target market of the Virtual Assistant - and I have to say, not many people are doing this.

    1nSourcing Level 5: Clients:

In this level we expand on things even further with looking at the set up of a simple client funnel to keep the client flow consistent, then focus in on bringing leads into that funnel, then the templated consulting process (with 1nSourcing best practises for securing business), and then finally address how to maximise the potential of your existing clients, to best ensure sustainability.

All you need to do is adapt this to the virtual assistant who is hiring.

Master The Art of Claiming Clients Workshop:

This is a 5 Day Workshop & Challenge focussed entirely on the art of claiming your clients for growing your online business (in a comfortable way). THERE WON'T BE ANY: cold calling / emailing, shady tactics, posting in groups, advertising, selling or desperate pleas for a job (none of that stuff is arty lol).

This is available to my Virtual CoWorking Space members.

I would also suggest if the virtual assistant you're looking to work with has any groups or private communities, they tend to look to hire from their own first. So for example, I have my Virtual CoWorking Space, so this is my go-to for hiring people in my team, and others will likely have a similar approach with trusted sources.

A note about my team at Virtual Miss Friday:

I still actively work with clients and run my virtual assistant business, therefore I do get a lot of requests for joining my team here at Virtual Miss Friday, and opportunities do arise for the right kind of people, but do please note that I only offer opportunities to join my team (or make recommendations for other teams when I am asked for virtual assistants) for people who are inside my 1nSourcing training. This is a way I give back to my amazing students and members who have invested in themselves through my training, but I also do this because they will usually have a full and complete understanding of how we operate and work within 1nSourcing 😃
