Will Your Virtual Assistant Business Be Successful?

First of all we must define success — thefreedictionary.com says that success is, “The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted.”

My definition of success is how happy I am, and this is directly linked to my inner me telling me what I desire in life. I took me a while to realise that I don’t desire millions of pounds, fancy cars and a penthouse suite in Manhattan. But what I do desire is enough money to go where I want to travel, enough time to spend watching my children grow up, while ensuring that I have some sort of ongoing and comfortable financial stability for daily living.

Many businesses that start online will fail, but why is this? Are there any dangers that could cause your business to fail before it’s even really started? If you are concerned that you might get lazy working from home, potentially want to give up, and you are worried that you may not have what it takes to make it, here are a few outside influences which I consider as potential factors in predicting whether you have what it takes – at this moment in time in your life, to run a successful Virtual Assistant Business.

#1 – Is Your Business Make Or Break?

Are you at a stage in your life where you’re really in a financial hole that you need to get out of? If you don’t get out of that hole, are things going to go very badly for you and your family? If the answer to those questions is yes, then I consider you in a very good position to have a successful business, because you are more likely to be in the mindset to do whatever it takes to make your business work. Whether this be working until 3am every morning or spending the next few months learning new skills or perfecting the ones you currently have.

I heard on an interview recently that when a very successful businessman was asked, “What’s the secret to your success?” his reply was that he had to take care of his wife and feed his family. Fear of the consequences of failure can be a huge motivator…

#2 – Do You HATE Your Current Situation?

Is there something in your lifestyle right now that you hate? Whether this be the location where you live, the job you’re in or the hours you need to spend away from home… anything related to your lifestyle, which you really hate, can be the fuel to drive your Virtual Assistance Business, making it your ticket to a new beginning. If you have something in your life right now that you simply can’t stand, you’ve got a much better than average chance of succeeding.

#3 – Are You Stubborn Or Proud?

One very big issue I have always had (and I blame the Taurean in me)  is that I am very, very stubborn. I decided that I was old enough to leave home and school when I was 16, so I did, and the more people told me that I wouldn’t be able to take care of myself at such a young age, and that I wouldn’t have any prospects having only completed a basic education, the more I wanted to prove them wrong. I also have a huge amount of pride in me (Yes, that’s my sin), my pride is responsible for the part of me that keeps me going, no matter what – if I say I am going to do something – I do it.

When I told everyone in my life I was going to move to Egypt and start a business, then hell, I was going to move to Egypt and start a business, and that was that.

If you have a “Failure is not an option” attitude, then you have a good chance of succeeding.

#4 – Do You Have Unusual Work Ethics?

The Internet now is riddled with home-based business opportunities — work 10 minutes a day and earn $4000 a week, or buy my instant cash cow product and you’ll be driving a Ferrari by the end of next month. You know the ones I mean — most of these people are struggling for money and trying to ‘sell the dream’ of having loads of money, which they have no personal experience of what-so-ever….  and while Virtual Assistance is a home-based business opportunity which could allow you to travel and see the world, and change you life completely, and also provide you with the means to earn a very decent sized income, it is NOT any kind of “little work, mostly play” kind of business.

If you’re one of these people who still believes that “you only get out what you put in,” then you have the perfect work ethic to be a fantastic Virtual Assistant.

Hard work has always paid off for me, and still does. But what keeps me going always is the fact that I love every bit of what I do, my business is all my own creation, and I think for most people — if they take care of their business, then their business will take care of them.

#5 – Are You Excited – Insanely Excited?

Are you totally ‘IN LOVE’ with the idea of becoming a Virtual Assistant, do you marvel at the doors that could open up to you, and the change in lifestyle which could literally be around the corner?

When you think of what Virtual Assistance could do for you – are you on the edge of your seat, wanting it all now, and ready to see it through to the end, at whatever cost??? If the answer is yes, then your excitement will carry over into your business in the beginning – but it’s only a small fraction of the excitement you’re going to need to be truly successful.

The key is to STAY excited, to STAY motivated and even when life and business gets you down, you remember this excitement, and you keep going, always…
