Passport, Luggage, Translator!
The ability to be able to communicate and translate using a 3 ways conversation in a foreign commune office, town hall or government building would be a dream come true for someone like me, who has to deal with that sort of thing on a regular basis. I usually am able to find friends or local people to help, but I am one of those people who hates asking other people to help me out with that sort of thing, it can be tedious and time consuming. Plus then you generally need help filling out paperwork later on, or providing some other bits and pieces.
So if you are a translator and you’re looking for a very ‘in demand’ sort of service for globetrotters, then this would be it!
So here’s where it gets tricky…
The trouble so far with this service, is we are either talking about expensive long distance calls (unless you can guarantee a wi-fi connection at the office – in my experience, highly unlikely, and if there was, I doubt they would hand over the password for you to connect), potentially across different timezones and the ability to be able have a 3 way conversation, with 2 people in real life, and one virtually – the translator, all in a public office.
Not easy, but one day with technology unfolding the way it is, such as 3G, we may be able to conquer this issue, and have mobile virtual translators – I will praise the day it comes!
