Pointers for getting started as a VA

Michelle Dale - Wednesday, September 18, 2019

I’ve been having a super-productive time sat in my office at the co-working space here in Egypt, so I took a little time today to read over some past emails that came into customer support and wanted to share a response with you that went out recently, just in case you’d like some general direction, or tips if you’re starting out.

Someone wrote into me and said, “Any pointers from when you first started out or any useful insights would be appreciated” and this is such a difficult question to answer because it could literally turn into "War and Peace" in terms of volume of writing and the numerous ways it could be answered, but I managed to keep it pretty succinct with a couple of key points, and I thought I’d share those with you.

I think the most important thing when you're aiming to become a VA is to have a goal or something to aim for to keep you constantly motivated. For me it was travel and not wanting to move back to the UK, then later it became my children, etc...

So here's a few pointers:

* Work smart - it's not about killing yourself over hours of labour that creates a successful business, but taking care of YOU along with it. Take breaks, get enough sleep, eat right, exercise and everything will come together so much easier.

* In terms of marketing it's best to be as human & personable as possible, so don't approach potential clients as 'your company' but rather as 'you'.

* Ask for help - don't try and do it all alone. Reach out, join groups, take courses, seek advice!

* And finally don't worry - worry consumes valuable energy and attracts more things to worry about, so keep a positive mindset, and if you're feeling low, jump on YouTube and watch a video about mindset and business success, go for a walk or whatever helps you switch your focus so you can help yourself snap out of it quickly.
