Hi! This is Michelle from VA Live. I’m going to take you through today the 5 things that I do before I make a consultation call or, actually, any kind of phone call because when you’re a Virtual Assistant you tend to, sometimes, make a lot of calls. It’s always handy to just do these 5 things before you make a call. It’s like preparation time.
Okay, so the first thing I do, I mute my mobile phone. I don’t want my mobile phone going off when I’m taking a call. It’s a basic principle.
The second thing I do is I mute my PC because I don’t want crazy Skype pop-ups going “beep-beep,” you know, when I’m on the phone. Also as well, sometimes when I’m looking at people’s websites, if I’m on a consultation call, I sometimes get like strange pop-ups with music coming off and things like that. I really don’t want that to happen.
The third thing I do, this is like very technical, I get a pen and a paper. Yes, I’m paperless but, you know, sometimes you have to make allowances certainly for phone consultations because I like to doodle and just generally write down little bits and pieces of notes and it’s just easier to do with the pen and paper.
The fourth thing I do, which is really really important and most people don’t think about it, is I get a drink because I don’t want to be talking for forever on the phone and not have a drink with me. Sometimes, consultations, they can go into long stretches and it’s usually me talking, sometimes. So, I get a drink.
The final thing I do, the #5, is I top-up my VOIP phone. I make sure that I have plenty of credit on it and I make sure it’s charged because I don’t want to have to be on this little wireless VOIP phone thing speaking on Skype and then it goes dead because it hasn’t been charged because it takes ages to charge up afterwards.
So, those are the 5 things that I do before I make a call. I hope they’re useful. I hope you follow them. You take care and have a good day. This is Michelle Dale for VA Live.
