How to explain not charging hourly rates.

I have a lot of virtual assistants in my 1nSourcing Training who love the idea of this pricing model, where they work within a budget rather than to an hourly rate.

For many this is more ideal, because they can manage their work more effectively, and don't need to get bogged down by the clock.

But for some they feel uncomfortable with how to communicate this to the client, when so many clients speak the 'per hour' language.

So I find analogies work well, and here are a couple to get you started...

Imagine you walk into a hairdresser's and ask for a hair cut, they say the price is £25. The customer would never say, how much per hour, expecting that if the haircut only took 30 minutes they would only have to pay £12.50. The hairdresser manages the time and the budget, the customer knows they will get the haircut how they want it, fully finished and without worry about whether it will cost more if it took a little longer or less, than the next customer.

Let's take another example, this is more centred around 'what you get' - So you choose what you want off a menu in a restaurant, you would love to eat the steak, and it comes with salad, and chips (french fries). The price let's say again is £25... But you don't want the salad with it, you wouldn't ask the waiter how much the salad costs, so they can deduct it from the price of the meal... Whether you have the salad or not, the meal is the same price.

This is kind of how the pricing strategy is for 1nSourcing, it's about fixed roles, for a fixed price.

At the end of the day, what really matters is that YOU are happy with your rates and excited to work with the client, where you're feeling valued and appropriately compensated.
